In April 2026,  5th and 6th class pupils took part in the Cycle Right Programme, Ireland’s national standard for cycle training. The programme is designed to help children develop the practical skills, knowledge and confidence needed to cycle safely and responsibly.

Throughout the sessions, pupils focused on key cycling skills such as bicycle control, road positioning, signalling, observation and hazard awareness. They also developed a stronger understanding of road safety and learned how to make safe, responsible decisions when cycling in a variety of environments.

The training provided a valuable hands-on learning experience in a supportive and structured setting. With guidance from qualified instructors, the pupils were able to build confidence, improve their cycling ability and apply their skills in real-world cycling situations.

Cycle Right is facilitated by Cycling Ireland and supported by the Department of Transport and the Road Safety Authority. The programme plays an important role in promoting safer cycling habits and encouraging active travel among young people.
